The books and lectures in this website have their roots in the activities of the Pitcairn-Knowles family over the last hundred years.

In 2012 the family will celebrate a century of devotion to the caring professions.

In 1912, having given up his photojournalism, Andrew Pitcairn-Knowles, with his wife, Margaret, established Riposo, The Knowles Health Hydro & Dietetic Establishment at Hastings; his son, Gordon, with his wife, Joyce, joined him in this venture in the 1920s; Gordon’s son Richard, attended the British School of Osteopathy for three years and qualified in 1958; he then established a practice in Sevenoaks; Richard married Pamela, now a receptionist at the practice, in 1961 and they had three children: Sara, who is an Occupational Therapist in Exeter, Mark who has taken over the Sevenoaks Osteopathic Practice, itself celebrating 50 years of help for the people of Sevenoaks, and Anna who is a Speech & Language Therapist in Cardiff as well as a very busy Fitness Instructor.

All of the Andrew Pitcairn-Knowles photographs are available at the Topfoto Picture Library and his entire archive is housed and available at the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Activities by Gordon in WW1 are likewise with The Imperial War Museum. Many of the Nature Cure books collected by Andrew Pitcairn-Knowles are in the care of The National Osteopathic Archive Incorporating Naturopathic & Musculo-Skeletal Medicine.
